Canstruction 2018
Canstruction is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world! It challenges teams of architects, engineers, and contractors to build sculptures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The large-scale structures are placed on display and later donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. In 2018, Canstruction is celebrating its 26th Anniversary at Brookfield Place New York! Awards will be granted in the following categories: Best Original Design, Structural Ingenuity, Best Meal, Most Cans, Cheri C. Melillo Award, Best Use of Labels, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice. ABOUT CANSTRUCTION & CANSTRUCTION NEW YORK Founded by the Society for Design Administration New York Chapter in 1992, Canstruction® is a trademarked design/build competition currently held in cities around the world. Canstruction New York has helmed the local competition for 25 years and is a 501(c)3, all-volunteer organization. This year, thirty teams of architects, engineers, contractors and students mentored by these design professionals will design and build giant structures made entirely out of full cans of food. The results are displayed for two weeks to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits at Brookfield Place (BFPL). Donations to Canstruction can be made here. The public is invited to donate canned food at the time of the exhibition. At the close of the exhibitions, the cans of food are donated to City Harvest.
